These events are the closest we have to our own university, to tenured professors and a formal curriculum. Because we lack sufficient financial clout to establish a permanent place for such learning, we have this traveling circus of experts who roam from town to town, event to event, squeaky-wheeled suitcases of samples in tow. Instead of vacuum cleaners or encyclopedias, we sell knowledge and skill acquired from decades of experience.

This weekend, thousands of knitters, crocheters, and other fiber arts enthusiasts will converge in New York City at the 7th annual Vogue Knitting LIVE conference—transforming the Times Square-centered New York Marriott Marquis into “our own university.”
Tenured professors include our beloved Clara Parkes, Norah Gaughan, Amy Herzog, Maryanne Moodie, and guest of honor Kaffe Fassett—who can be spotted at an “Inside the Designer Studio” talk with moderator Liza Lucy on the Marketplace main stage, as well as at his keynote address for Saturday evening’s Rowan Yarns Gala Dinner. His garments will be featured in a gallery throughout the conference, and at an exclusive fashion show after the gala dinner.
More than 200 technique classes including weaving, lace knitting, cables, dyeing, and much more will take place alongside a bustling Marketplace made up of nearly 150 booths selling everything from hard-to-find fibers to patterns and accessories and—most importantly—books. This event will see the debut of our new Kaffe Fassett adult coloring book, Kaffe Fassett’s Adventures in Color—something bound to help you see the world through his master colorist’s eyes.
We hope you will stop by booths 712–716 to meet ABRAMS Craft authors hosted by our friends at Knitty City, enter a raffle to win a new craft library, collect some exclusive show giveaways including Knitlandia luggage tags, and perhaps take home a signed book—to study and enjoy long after the university has closed its doors.
